We cannot avoid it: being sustainable has become a driving factor when we, as consumers, make decisions today. And our homes are one of the places where we can make the biggest difference. Radiators - and heating in general - play a central role in this. Find out how you can choose radiators that not only heat your home, but also your green conscience.
When choosing a radiator, it’s important to consider its environmental footprint. Most modern radiators are designed with energy efficiency in mind, meaning they use less energy to reach the desired temperature. This reduces your electricity bill – and your carbon footprint.
In addition, the material also matters. Look for radiators that are made of quality steel or aluminum and are made of thicker material than the cheap products on the market. This ensures that it will last for generations and that all the material can be recycled when and if it needs to be replaced. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the radiator and manufacturer’s sustainability practices and certifications.
Sustainability does not have to come at the expense of aesthetic expression. On the contrary, an energy-efficient radiator can be a central design element in your home.
In addition, designs that are made to last often focus on timeless expression rather than quick trends and fads. Good design is made to last both stylistically and physically. So, when you choose quality design, you often choose sustainability.
In recent decades, radiators have become smaller and slimmer. They therefore take up much less space and are verry good at optimizing heat distribution in the room. And more radiators have become multifunctional, so they not only function as a heat source, but also function as a towel warmer or bench – in addition to being a beautiful piece of design.
At Hudevad, there is nothing new in us delivering quality products that last a lifetime. The news is that we now have proof that we not only have a quality product, but that we also are able to document the impact our products have on the environment. We now have the first environmental product declarations and life cycle assessments on several of our radiators – so that they are now EPD-verified (Environmental Product Declarations).
This is a really important step in mapping the climate footprint of our products and thus being able to improve the climate impact of our products in the future. Among other things, we have uncovered the lifespan of the radiators, the possibility of recycling the materials, transport to and from construction sites and our CO₂ emissions during production.
In addition, Hudevad has just been awarded a silver certification in EcoVadis, which is one of the world's leading and most recognized platforms for assessing companies' sustainability performance. To achieve a medal, a company must achieve strong results in all four assessment categories: Environment, sustainable procurement, ethics - and labor and human rights. The silver medal places Hudevad in the top 15% of all assessed companies on the EcoVadis platform.
