Colours - what they mean to us and our interior design

The different colours have a profound effect on our mood

When you enter the different rooms at home, what mood would you like to be in?

Let's try to describe two rooms.

In the first room, you are embraced by warmth and comfort when you enter. You feel the passion, the playfulness and the joy in yourself. In the second room, a calmness falls over you as you enter. You are relaxed and instinctively feel more confident and competent. The two rooms have the same furniture, the same materials and all the same things. The only difference is the colours. We will get back to the two rooms and which colours you met in which room.

The power of colours

Colours are hugely important to us, and it's worth remembering when you decorate the different spaces and rooms in the home. All colours evoke different emotions and can influence our behaviour, so it is not without significance if you decide to use a coloured radiator as a focal point in the living room, or if - on the other hand - you decide to keep the radiator neutral and let it match the wall colour.

At Hudevad you can choose between 213 RAL colours including our standard white.

The meaning of the colours and what you should choose for the individual rooms.

The warm colours – Yellow, orange and red

Let's start with the warm colours. You met them in room number 1.

Yellow – the colour of happiness and optimism

Yellow is cheerful. It is energetic and it brings fun and joy with it. In addition, it boosts your learning ability and stimulates mentality. The shades of yellow make decision-making easier and are said to give clarity to thoughts and thus make communication easier. A yellow radiator could therefore be a good idea in the study, in the children's room or in the kitchen, to get the perfect start to a new day.

Orange – the colour of enthusiasm and emotion

Orange radiates warmth. It is considered a fun colour that gives emotional strength. It adds spontaneity and positivity to life and boosts the desire for social contact and communication. The orange shades increase creativity and encourage activities and can also stimulate the appetite. Thus, an orange radiator can act as part of the welcome committee in your entrance hall, or you can use it in the dining area to encourage your children to eat their dinner.

Red – The colour of passion and energy

Red attracts attention. The strong and powerful energy motivates us to act. It is linked to sexuality and stimulates deep and intimate passion. Red is also the colour of warning and signals caution and danger. A radiator in a shade of red will therefore light up any room and become the perfect focal point. If you have a red wall, paint your radiator in the same colour to make it harmonize with the mood of the room.

The cool colours – blue, green and violet

Let's move on to the opposite end of the spectrum: the cool colours. You met them in room number 2.

Violet – the colour of spirituality and imagination

Violet inspires. It gives a sense of insight. Purple and violet shades are associated with courage, the royal and a wonderful luxury. Violet stimulates the mood and can calm the mind and nerves. Violet and purple colours boost creativity and increased imagination. Depending on the shade, a violet radiator can be used in any room in the home. Make the radiator blend in with the wall or make it a statement in the room.

Blue – the colour of trust and loyalty

Blue is calming. It has a relaxing effect on our psyche and makes us safe and relaxed. Blue is a sign of stability and reliability and is often used in offices and spaces where people need to be productive. Blue is said to lower our heart rate and can expand our perspective and intuition. A blue radiator can be used wherever the colour would suit the interior. In the living room, it will be obvious to provide a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, and in the kitchen, a perfect blue can stimulate efficiency.

Green – the colour of harmony and health

Green is associated with freshness, peace and security. It is generous and revitalizes our body and mind. Green gives hope and promises growth and prosperity, which can evoke a feeling of abundance. The green shades relieve and can even boost the effect of treating depression, nervousness and anxiety. A green radiator is perfect for the bedroom to create a relaxed and calm atmosphere or have a green radiator in the living room to create an atmosphere of calm and safety.

P5 V grey

The neutral colours - grey, brown, black and white.

Neutral colours are shades that appear to lack colour. But they often have underlying nuances that change according to the lighting.

Grey – the colour of compromise and control.

Grey is seen as neutral, conservative and without the big frills. It appears stable, reliable and calming and reduces energy from other colours and can therefore give a room with different shades of grey an elegant and futuristic design feel. A grey radiator can tie all the colours in the room together. Grey is beautiful with all natural woods.

Brown – the colour is stable and reliability.

Brown creates grounding and gives a sense of order in the room and hopefully also in your life. It makes a room feel cosy and warm. By mixing brown with wood and natural elements, a subtle elegance is created. A brown radiator may seem dull, but a rich brown will highlight stronger colours such as lime green or orange, which will really make the radiator contrast with the interior of the room. A brown radiator will be perfect in a living room or dining room.

Black and white – classic or statement?

Black oozes power, sophistication and authority and makes us feel safe and protected. White is the true balance between all colours and is associated with cleanliness, simplicity and perfection. Together, they are considered one of the most iconic colour combinations in interior design history for their timelessness and versatility. Our standard radiator is painted white, which makes it suitable to combine with practically any other colour. Black radiators have been in great demand in the past decade. When you paint your radiator black, you make it a statement. It requires attention in the room.
